I am an old friend of Richard's, and we long ago fell out of touch. He and I met about 15 years ago when I was living in Chicago. We had a great connection then, and I always hoped that we would reconnect again one day. I have looked him up unsuccessfully several times, and I am so sad to discover this news about him today. I'm glad I knew him, and his time on this earth was all too brief. My condolences to his friends and family.

I stumbled upon this blog upon some casual searching for old college friends. Rich was among my closest friends at Penn during undergrad but we lost touch upon graduation. He was sweet, funny, sensitive, and kind. We spent way too much time doing silly things when we should have been studying. I remember his beautiful singing (he used to imitate James Taylor) his laugh, practicing volleyball dives, his creativity, his ability to imitate accents, and his seriousness about his faith. I loved him like a brother and am saddened to hear of his passing. I am encouraged and not surprised to read about his life's work and am proud to have been among his friends early in his life. I expect now 4 1/2 years later there is still a big hole in the hearts of his family and those who were closest to him.
